One of the biggest drawbacks is value. If there are not a lot of log homes sold in the past 3 - 6 months in the area, that are similar size, age etc, it will be very difficult for the appraiser to come up with a value. They have to compare log homes to log homes (apples to apples). You may have to put down a substantial down payment! Settling is a big problem. The older sections are probably stable now but the addition will have settling problems. They literally make slots in partition walls or anything attached to the log walls so adjustments can be made as the logs settle.
