New York City vs Los Angeles, am I right?

Okay so I just want to see what people think of my perceptions of these cities. To give some background, I grew up in Northern New Jersey very close to New York City and am currently living in Chicago for school. I have been to LA maybe a dozen times to visit family. From these experiences I have found that people in LA love to rave about the "great" weather, but I personally enjoy the changing of the seasons. I have found LA to be polluted, to have very poor urban planning with no central downtown and terrible traffic, but I will admit the beaches are nice. As an east coaster I have noticed that people in other parts of the country view us as mean and standoffish. From an outsiders perspective I can understand that, but this is just the language of the people. People in every region of the U.S. have different characteristics. East Coasters are fast paced, Midwesterners are extremely nice, Southerners have a psuedo-niceness about them and West Coasters are airheads. Knowing NYC pretty well, I would honestly have to say that NYC beats out all other cities in the U.S. in nearly every category, with the exception of weather. Plus if you are a career oriented person looking to attain success, LA is not the place to be. As they say if you can "make it" in New York, you can make it anywhere. Many people tend to forget that they call it the east coast because we also live on an ocean! The Atlantic is beautiful and has a unique feel in every state from Maine to Florida. So my final verdict is that LA has nice weather, but its infrastructure and people are turn offs. NYC on the other hand provides the full alpha world city experience, is where people go to become successful, but is expensive. I know this may seem offensive to West Coasters, but its more ridiculous to even debate which city is better. New York City is the reason why people visit America, its history and culture represent the roots of this country. So just be proud that you live in a country with such a city.New York City vs Los Angeles, am I right?
If the question is "...am I right?", this is a statement of opinion, not a fact, so it can't be right. I also think your point of view on NYC and LA depends on where you grew up and where you've visited. Personally I live in LA, and I've been to New York City quite a bit and I find LA more appealing.

There are amazing things about both cities. I love the subway system in New York, it makes travel so much more convenient. New York has a great downtown, the Metropolitan is fantastic, the Guggenheim is my favorite museum in the world, and the shopping is amazing. LA has great beaches and weather, some the best parties in the USA (after Miami of course), great food, and you can go from snowboarding to surfing to a desert all in one day. Both cities contain extremely prestigious universities too.

However, they also have their bad qualities too. Los Angeles' air is polluted, the freeway system is a maze, there is no large downtown area (in a Chicago or New York sense), the people have a much slower pace of life than New Yorkers, and the traffic is terrible. New York is dirty, the weather is crappy, it is extremely expensive, and the people are pushy.

As a side note, many Europeans like to visit Los Angeles and other west coast cities just as much as they like to visit New York. Whenever I go to France (my mom is from there) to visit family, people express equal interest in LA.

All in all, everyone has a different opinion and calling that "ridiculous" is insulting.New York City vs Los Angeles, am I right?
Opinions are like *******. Everybody has one.
