What should I do to surprise my husband for our anniversary, in North East US?

I want to give him a surprise one day getaway around where we stay (NYC).



I looked up pretty much everything - from PA/BMore Trips with Bolt Bus, Long Island/Metro North packages,etc.



We've been to Atlantic City and D.C.



I wouldn't like to exceed $100 (without dinner included).



Our anniversary is on July 14th, which will land on a Wednesday,I believe.

I was thinking of doing a picnic at Appalachian Trail, by taking Metro North. And that will have to be done in the weekend since the train schedule is only available such dates and I do not want to depend on weather much. Plus, I would like to explore all my possibilities.



If money wasn't a issue (besides that timing is also an issue), I'd go to Niagara Falls or Maine...I can't exceed the 6-hr trip next month though as our schedules are super busy.



We do not have cars.



Feel free to share any experiences you may have from a close-by getaway.
