Are the effects of el nino as dramatic in other parts of the country as they are along the west coast?

Do folks living in various parts of the country see the effects of el nino?

How is el nino experienced around the country?

Does it appear to most that el nino is connected to global warming?

Do you know that el nino exists, and what it is?

Is it a topic on your weather forecast?

Is it mentioned in school?

el nino

Have you heard of el nino

It makes it rain, it makes it snow,

It makes the weather really wild

And winter鈥檚 often really mild.

It鈥檚 called the southern oscillation

And messes with weather o鈥檈r all creation

It makes the water off Ecuador hot

While over near Indonesia, it鈥檚 not.

鈥?8 was a really hot year

In fact the heat was so severe

50 thousand souls went up to heaven,

4 times more than in 鈥?7

But what is this of which I speak

What makes the temperature peak

What drives that heat and snow and rain

That some folks think is such a pain.

It鈥檚 like a see-saw in the Pacific Ocean

A water event that sets in motion

A weather swing, a glorious thing

The snow pack makes the farmers sing

All over California farmers shout

And hoot and holler and dance about

O glory be, it鈥檚 about time

The sierra snows will be sublime

Water restrictions are finally over,

We鈥檒l grow our fruit and wheat and clover

For several years, we鈥檝e had it rough

Finally there鈥檒l be water enough

To flood our fields and grow our rice

Oh my, it will be so nice

To worry about what crops to sell,

And not about our parched dry well.

Our oranges will be full and sweet

And even through the summer鈥檚 heat

We鈥檒l water more, turn up the flow

And in the fall, our grain we鈥檒l mow.

But what鈥檚 the difference, what is this

el nino that brings the farmers bliss

does all the world appreciate

the snow that we accumulate

alack alas, it鈥檚 not to pass

to say it did would be rather crass

el nino鈥檚 cause a hurricane

from southern Florida way up to Maine

but what about, what happens when

el nino stops, what happens then

ah ha, that鈥檚 good, I鈥檓 glad you asked

because that鈥檚 been our recent past.

la nina reigns, that鈥檚 not good either

it seems we never get a breather

Drought and fires and devastation

Beset our tired weary nation.

But that was then, and this is now

It鈥檚 time I stopped and took a bow

And leave us all a time to think

Because my printer鈥檚 out of ink.

Great poem!

The 'weather' is really strange here in the Puget Sound area. Are the effects of el nino as dramatic in other parts of the country as they are along the west coast?
Even though your views of reality are skewed beyond comprehension you wrote a pretty good poem there.
Are you sharpening up your quatrain skills? Are the effects of el nino as dramatic in other parts of the country as they are along the west coast?

We are getting the wet winter that always comes with El Nino. But at the same time it is much colder than previous El Nino winters. Atlanta had snow and ice in December, which is unheard of around here. We usually get our "wintry mix" around the end of February into March. Makes me wonder if we are going to get a blizzard this year, like we did in 92'.
