You can get information on climate from any number of weather sites, just Google it. New England covers a huge area from coastal to mountain, cities to farmland. I have visited in spring and fall (autumn) and am staggered by the sheer beauty and diversity of the area. I suppose a great deal depends on whether you want to shop (Boston) or sight see, adventure or pure relaxation. New England has the lot. I have explored the forest areas of Vermont (including a tour of Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory) and the historic covered bridges of Connecticut and Vermont as well as the Maine coastline and sea side towns and villages. There are also the historic areas of Massachusetts including Salem famous for its witch trials. I suppose New England is most renowned for the autumnal experience of the "Fall". Unfortunately this is when most folk go and some are disappointed as the fall is hard to predict within a period of a month to six weeks. We even stayed in the Vermont house once owned by Rudyard Kipling, where he wrote The Jungle Book and other works, that is available through The Landmark Trust for short and week hires and is a memorable experience. www.landmarktrust.org.uk. Get online and check out the options according to your own preferences. I am sure you will not be disappointed. When is the best time to visit New England?
A good time to come is May. The beaches are opening but not much tourism is coming yet. Also school is still in session so the culture towns such as Portsmouth or North Conway will be less crowded. Fall is also nice with the foliage but it can be hard to predict when the best foliage will be as it usually varies year to year. All in all its a great place anytime except between Dec. and Mar. due to the snowy weather. Most of the fun things to do in New England are outdoors and stay closed from Nov. to Apr.
The best time to visit New England is in the fall. The daytime temperature is usually in the 60's and the colors on the trees are amazing. There would be snow on the ground from around late November to mid April, sometimes earlier or later. It tends to rain a lot in March and April. The hottest month is July or August.
