Start hiking from maine around oct 15th and travel south to georgia by spring. Do many hikers challenge the elements of cold and bad weather?Is it advisable to walk the appalacian trail from fall till completion?
Most thru hikers start at Springer in GA in early spring and hike north. Even then you can encounter cold rain and snow. Go to Appalachian Trail Conservancy web page.
