Vacation spots in Maine, New Hampshire?

I am looking for a place to go for a one week vacation with my husband and 2 and a half year old girl this summer. We really like the idea of a cottage on a lake but we would also like to have somewhere to go indoors with a toddler if the weather is no good. Last year, it rained almost all week and we were in the middle of nowhere! Any links to a website would be great too. Thanks!Vacation spots in Maine, New Hampshire?
There are a lot of places that come to mind when thinking about those two states. They are both beautiful, and make perfect getaway locations. For me to pick the 'best' spot is almost impossible. There is just too many, and it depends a lot on what type of environment you like - somewhere secluded and quiet, or somewhere with a lot of people and lots of activity going on, or somewhere in between? I can provide a few links, and maybe that will help you to decide? Either way, have a great vacation wherever you decide to go!

Moosehead Lake is one of the most popular in Maine.

The only thing I advise, is that you bring good bug spray..if you aren't right on the ocean, mosquito's can be bad.

I highly recommend Bar Harbor for a few days though, it's beautiful, and there are a lot of places to visit inside and out. It's really busy, so I'm not sure if that's the experience you're looking for. I don't know if you plan to stay the whole week in one place or spread the days out.

New Hampshire has Lake Winnipesaukee which is really nice.

For attractions for children if you'll be in the northern New Hampshire area:

These are all around the White Mountain Region, which is very beautiful, but mostly known for it's hiking trails. Gorham is a nearby town which has a lot of tourist information. North Conway is also nearby, and is known for it's outlet shopping.Vacation spots in Maine, New Hampshire?
Come on up to Conway, New Hampshire! We've got it all! The town is quaint, safe and friendly. Our nights are rarely too hot in the summer and days offer lakes to swim in, and lots to do! Take a peek at www.mtwashingtonvalley.org to see our chamber of commerce website. There is much to do here. If you call the folks over at Conway Lakeside Cottages (see link below). This is a quaint place. It's outside of town and right on Conway Lake. Peace and quiet with room for little feet to run outside. You're about 15 mins out of town. Town is an easy drive. The road you're on is quite too which is nice. I drive past this place every day and always wish I was a tourist so I could stay there for week!

Hope to see you round town this summer!
in maine you can choose between staying on the coast or staying in the mountains...since it'll be summer i recommend the coast, for a beach vacation southern maine including york, oqunquit or old orchard beach are very popular--kids love the boardwalk at old orchard beach with all its games and food(adults do too)....for a more "rugged" vacation go up to bar harbor and acadia national park--the coast here is more rocky and rugged compared to southern maines sandy beaches; you can do whale watches, tour the national park, explore the town of bar harbor,etc.. i would use craigslist for vacation rentals
