Do you think that Maine would be an alright place to own horses? Please answer, 10 points easy!?

Any rude, or disrespectful answers will be reported. Please do not answer if you don't intend to answer politely. Thanks!

Anyways, I love Maine and I've been going there all my life. I have family who lives up there, and its absolutely beautiful. There are also a lot of farms up there, depending on the areas. So, do you think that (southern) Maine would be a good place to own horses in?

Heres a short pros and cons list:

Pros:

Inexpensive acreage prices

Extensive wildlife

L.L. Bean (Thats a family favorite : D )

Beautiful

Environmentally conscious

Plenty of trails and woods to ride in!

Plus, a lot of farms have barns attached to the houses so if there was a heavy snow, we'd still have access to the barn

I enjoy winter!

Most of my favorite breeds are pretty weather tolerant/resistant so weather wouldn't be as huge a factor as many people think

Cons:

Typical New England Winters, which I'm used to...

It can get so cold! (At least I like the wintertime...)

Some places can get icy, although southern Maine winters are not as bad as northern Maine winters

I think it would be a great place to earn horses. You forgot two things though: lobsters and blueberries! Ha ha, but seriously, Maine is very pretty and serene and wild. It would be a wonderful place to own horses so long as you had an indoor arena so you could ride year round and not have to worry about the weather. The barns are attached to the houses? That is so cool!
I can not speak from personal experiance, however I do have a friend that lived up there for many years and had a horse farm. She loved it! She said the spring and fall rides really all made it worth it. The hardest part for her was makeing sure that the horses had enough heat in the stables so check in on that before purchasing. Although there are not too many jobs up there, from what I have heard Maine is a wonderfull place to keep horses! Good Luck!Do you think that Maine would be an alright place to own horses? i think it would be alright

you sound like you really love horses and know a lot about them

so if you take good care of them and whatnot i think its a great idea.

ive never been to maine or anywhere up northeast, i live in kansas, but i say go for it.
I think that, if you really want to, anywhere can be a good place to own a horse. As long as you provide everything the horse needs, it can thrive in any setting, even a city. From what I know, Maine is a pretty cold climate with harsh winters, but is very beautiful. As long as the horse is well cared for, has shelter that is warm in the winter and cool enough in the summer, it should be fine in Maine. You said that there were woods and trails to ride on, and that is perfect because that means there are plenty of ways to keep your horse fit, healthy, and happy.

You seem like you love horses and know enough about them, and I'm pretty confident that you could take care of your horse well in Maine, or anywhere else for that matter.

Good luck, and happy riding!Do you think that Maine would be an alright place to own horses? Please answer, 10 points easy!?
Sounds like a dream to me. I love winter too. Looks like the pros far outweigh the cons, and if I could, I think I just might go with you! LOL Seriously, it sounds just lovely, and if it is where you want to ive, and nothing is holding you back, go for it. If you don't, years down the road, you may regret that you didn't go when you had the chance. Never give up on a dream that is within your reach. Best of luck to you in your dream.

Of course. I am sure there are thousands of people in Maine who own horses.
yea i think maine would be a good place to raise a horse as long as theres enough space. i wish massachusetts was because i want one
Well you have more pros then cons. And all your cons are to do with the weather. I live in Minnesota. And we have harsh winters here.

It gets cold - the horses grow winter coats, they have shelters, have access to round bales during the winter, and if needed they wear winter blankets.

It gets icy - everyone at the barn chips in to buy salt that melts the ice, we have an indoor arena and grooming areas, etc. and we all help to put markers where it is very icy to minimize the risk of a horse or person slipping and/or falling.

So winters aren't as bad as many people expect they are. Just dress in layers and invest in nice winter boots. ;D
i would i have never been to maine but i live in ny
