Myself and two friends are born and raised Northern Californians. As a group we've basically decided that we do not want to spend our entire lives in one place and that the best time to do something like live in an entirely different state is now, when things like family and long term careers aren't keeping us back. Right now we have (basically) settled on Maine (probably not far from Portland) because of how different it is than what we're used to.
The thing is that it's not the weather than concerns us but we wonder if, being from CA, we would be less accepted in the state. I should say that we are pretty normal 21-22 year olds, well mannered, hard working, basically all around average kids. It's just I know a lot of people not from CA think everything in CA is like on tv. Trust me - Sacramento has zero in common with LA. We're hoping on finding employment and living there for at least a year - though, depending on how we got situated we would all be ecstatic about living there long term. It's just that we don't want to move to an area that will be biased right off the bat. I'm asking because I seriously have no clue what Mainers reception to out of towners is. (By the way, I'd be asking this no matter where we were going, it just so happens we've decided on ME right now).
Sorry for the length. Hope some can give us a little incite. Thanks.Moving from California to Maine (Any native Mainers?)
People in Maine are very friendly. It's a neat place, but really cold in the winter. If you like the natural scene then Maine is a good place. Check out The Town of Wiscasset the Gateway to Midcoast Maine. It's a place where a rich maritime history and a bright technological future converge in "Maine's Prettiest Village."
We're a thriving and diverse community with unique assets and an amazing infrastructure for a town our size. Visitors can shop for anything from antiques to organic food, dine on the waterfront, visit nationally significant historical places, stay in first class accommodations and choose from myriad recreation and other activities during their stay.
It's a place where businesses enjoy the many advantages of Wiscasset's geography, landscape and infrastructure. A portfolio including deep water access, rail, airport, major electric distribution, telecommunications and a business-friendly town government make Wiscasset the envy of any municipality.
Wiscasset truly is an incredible place to live, work and play. Come see for yourself.
