Going to Boston/Maine...?

I used to live in Massachusetts, and my family and I go back every year for Christmas. We're going back in about a week, and the day after Christmas we're going to Maine. Since I'm from the east coast i'm used to the cold, but i do live in California now, so my winter weather clothing is a bit shabbier then usual... anyways we've overheard something or another about power outages and frigid weather, so i was just wondering if there was anything in particular i should be expecting? or anything extra i'll need to bring?

thanks

ps we're staying on marth'as vineyard, so i don't know if that'll be more or less cold then mainland MAGoing to Boston/Maine...?
Well, Martha's Vineyard is almost always colder than the mainland. You're going to be getting coastal winds...but the advantage is, it doesn't snow as much, since it's on the ocean.

I would invest in some thermals for under your cool weather clothes. One or two sets will be good enough if you have access to a washing machine.

I'm bringing my fiance back to Boston this weekend, and he's from Arizona (and super skinny, heh), so this is what I'm doing for him.

Also, especially for your trek to Maine, make sure you have something warm and waterproof for your feet!! If you don't want to (or can't) invest in really warm winter shoes or boots, then wear wool socks over your regular socks.

I would definitely suggest sacrificing trendy shoes for comfort. :)

Also, head over to Target or a sporting goods store and pick up some hand %26amp; foot warmers. If you've never seen them, they're little packets that look like they're made out of interfacing, filled with what looks like herbs. There are chemicals in there that, when activated by opening the outer packet, create heat that lasts for hours. Put these in your pockets or gloves, and even in your shoes, and it will keep you toasty! They really do work, and aren't expensive at all. (I think I saw a pack at Target with about 10 for $6)

Best of luck! Have fun, and keep warm!Going to Boston/Maine...?
Prepare for wind. There will be less snow on the Vineyard than mainland (its the coastal effect) but it will be windier which will make it feel colder.Going to Boston/Maine...?
Are you going to Maine or going to Martha's Vineyard???

Martha's Vineyard is part of Massachusetts!!!!!!!!!!

(And, yes, the islands are unusally warmer in winter than the mainland. But I bet you already knew that).
