Is it safe to fly when the weather is predicting freezing rain?

Flying from Maine to Chicago and the forecast is for freezing rain in O'hare and I"m scared to death after the recent crash in upstate NY. Is it safe to fly when the forecast is predicting freezing rain?Is it safe to fly when the weather is predicting freezing rain?
I think it depends on the size of the plane you going to be on. However, it isn't so much the plane, it is if the flight gets canceled due to weather. It wasn't the ground weather, but the ice in the clouds that may have caused the plane to go down. So with that said, it it still safer then driving and you should have no problems. Is it safe to fly when the weather is predicting freezing rain?
I'm scared to death to fly, period. But you have to trust that the pilots and crew, etc. know a lot more than we do. If it were dangerous to fly, I doubt they'd put their own lives in jeopardy, let alone dozens of passengers. Flying seems dangerous because all we hear about are the crashes - maybe they should start telling us how many planes landed safely, instead! Take a deep breath and say a prayer - I'm sure you'll be fine.
