My boyfriend and I will be spending the day in Portland, Maine. We're looking for fun things to do, nice sights to see (lighthouses?), and a nice (not too expensive) place to eat. Also, some nice shops. We're going in October so activities can't include warm weather things. We're 21 and 24. Thanks!Sights to see and things to do in Portland, Maine?
I lived in Portland, ME for 1 year. When I first arrived there, the downtown area looked run down to me and didn't get a good feeling about the city. But once I got to know different people in Portland, the surroundings started to look beautiful to me. To start you could walk the main street there, Congress Street, and look at different establishments. The poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow lived there and there are some Longfellow names in their business title.
Also, the main mall there is called The Maine Mall. There are a lot of stores and restaurants there...some inexpensive.
Portland is located on the waterfront, and there is the Casco Bay Lines that have cruise tours. There are many islands off the land, and some of the tours go by and to the islands...and other tours only go to certain islands.
When walking around the streets of Portland, people are friendly there so some people might give you other ideas to do for the day there. Have fun.
