Why is there a huge difference in latitude but very little difference in weather for North American vs Europe?

What I mean is when you look at the latitude of some European countries, England is all the way where Hudson Bay is in Canada, yet its not that cold in the winter. Italy is the same latitude as Maine, yet Maine is freezing cold in the winter but Italy is warm. Why is this? Why is there a huge difference in latitude but very little difference in weather for North American vs Europe?
Latitude is only one of the factors involved in determining weather.

The currents of the ocean and prevailing wind patterns play a significant role as well.

Europe gets its warm weather from what we call the jet stream. The warm winds originate in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and prevailing winds blow them north and with a path curved to the east due to the Coriolis effect (not "Coriolis force"), which is due to the Earth's rotation, and creates counter clockwise patterns in the wind shapes. Why is there a huge difference in latitude but very little difference in weather for North American vs Europe?
England is warmer because of the Gulf stream which is a warm ocean current and it carries warm waters from the tropical region.Italy is surrounded by the Mediterranean sea and experiences what we call Mediterranean climate in which summers will be hot and dry with less precipitation and the winter will be cool and wet.Why is there a huge difference in latitude but very little difference in weather for North American vs Europe?
I didn't look this up but from recall I believe it is due to the warm Gulf Stream current which bends north up the eastern seaboard of the US and heads east into the North Atlantic after being deflected by Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Then with the prevailing westerly winds, the warm ocean air is carried to Europe.
Another factor is land mass. If you go inland in Europe, you will find those locations get just as cold if not colder in the winter as places like Maine and the Hudson Bay do. Those places are too far away to be influenced by the oceans and as a result, have much more extreme weather.
