1) 1) Find the mean, median, model, and standard deviation of the data. round to the nearest hundredth, if necessary
2) Determine weather the data in the table appears to be positively skewed, or normally distributed. Explain
3) the time a group of high school students arrive home from school each day was found to be normally distributed. the mean time was 3:15 PM and the time has a standard deviation for 15 minutes. What is the probability that a student chosen at random arrives home from school before 2:30 PM?Can you help me on this table please!!!! can u help me answer this for review#16 ?
PROBLEM 1:
Mean:
456 + 306 + 160 + 363 + 376 + 935 + 54 + 349 = 2999
2999/8 = 374.875 = 374.9
Median:
54, 160, 306, 349, 363, 376, 456, 935
349 + 363 = 712
712/2 = 356
Mode:
None
Standard Deviation:
x...........x-374.9........(x-374.9)^2
54.........-320.9..........102,976.81
160.......-214.9..........46,182.01
306.......-68.9............4,747.21
349.......-25.9............670.81
363.......-11.9............141.61
376........1.1..............1.21
456........81.1............6,577.21
935........560.1..........313,712.01
................................475,00鈥?br>
Add all of the values in the last column together.
Divide that number by (8 - 1) or 7
475008.88/7 = 67585.411
Then take the square root of that number
鈭?7585.411 = 260.496
260.5 = Standard Deviation
PROBLEM 2:
I am not really sure what this question is asking. I have a feeling you will have to calculate a z-score or something but I thought that had to give you a value to test to do that.
x...........x-374.9........(x-374.9)/2鈥?br>
54.........-320.9..........-1.232
160.......-214.9..........-0.825
306.......-68.9............-0.2645
349.......-25.9............-0.0994
363.......-11.9............-0.0457
376........1.1..............0.00422
456........81.1............0.31132
935........560.1..........2.1501
PROBLEM 3:
I don't know how to solve it because in my math we never learned about normally distribution.

Traveling from Los Angeles to Halifax in July - what should I do there?
How far is Toronto, Montreal, Niagra Falls and Maine from Halifax if I was to rent a car? How is the dollar doing in Canada? I want to eat good French Food while I'm there - what do you recommend? What's the weather and temperature like in July in Halifax? I'll take any suggestions you may offer as to what to do, what to see, what to eat. Also I have seen Anne of Green Gables - can I see any of those sites from that series - they were so beautiful - thanking you all in advance!!!Traveling from Los Angeles to Halifax in July - what should I do there?
Halifax in July. You picked a beautiful time of year to visit. Toronto is at least a 20 hour drive, Niagara Falls 23 hours, Montreal 13-14. Temps in area of Halifax in July range from the 60's to 100F, generally, the closer the water the cooler. Prince Edward Island(Green gables) is a 2 1/2 -3 hour drive. If I knew how long you were planning on staying I could better figure out what you have time to see. Many beautiful, historic sites in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, P.E.I. as well as Montreal, Quebec City and even southern Ontario. As far as good french food, Montreal and or Quebec City of course but New Brunswick has a large french population and in July, Lobster festivals are everywhere, great one in Shediac, New Brunswick in early July, Tourism new brunswick would have the exact dates for you. All the provinces have tourism sites with lots to see and do. As a long haul trucker, I could give you hundreds of ideas on places to see if you'd like as well as give you driving times between most places and things to see along the way. PEI is almost a must, Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia is alot like the Pacific Coast highway from San Fran -LA. Winding road along the coast, another must see. Feel free to e-mail me from my profile and i'll help you plan if you like or at least offer a few suggestions. How long you plan on staying will dictate what you will be able to see. Enjoy your stay.
P.S.
U.S. dollar is around par with the Canadian dollar, within a few cents and all places accept US currency although because 50's and 100's are forged easier, some places don't accept them and you'll have to exchange at a bank.

Why is the summer so cool in Bradford PA?
Bradford, PA located at around 2,000 feet asl and at 41.5 degrees latitude does not have really cold winters - in fact, their normal January temperatures are the same as Chicago's. Still, it's usually the coldest in P.A. in the winter. HOWEVER, my beef is with the summer weather! Bradford's normal low of 55 is more of the likes of the U.P. of Michigan or Northern Maine, like Caribou, both are at 48 degree latitude. Bradford's normal high is even more absurd. According to the latest normals, 76 degrees is the normal high for Bradford. International Falls has a warmer normal high than Bradford!
What makes Bradford so cool? I could understand if the low was abnormally cold, if the airport was in a "sink" like Saranac, but the high temperature would be warmer. All I can think of is the elevation combined with the extremely heavy cloudcover that Western P.A. is known for. That is the only reason I could explain the cool July normal high avg. of 76.
Compare this with Burlington Vermont, some 300 miles directly north. Normal low is 59 in Burlington and normal high is 80.
In addition, extreme heat is almost non existant! If you take out the year of 1988 - the hottest summer ever for the northeast, the all-time record high for Bradford would be only 92 degrees!
Btw, even with 1988, the all time record high is 97 degrees - which is 9 degrees LOWER than Duluth, and 4 degrees LOWER than Burlington VT.Why is the summer so cool in Bradford PA?
Your in a cool pocket. Maybe that weather station is in a cold part of town. Mountainous regions have lots of different microclimates in small areas and if the town is located in a valley, that would explain the cooler summer weather. It sounds like Bradford PA is a pretty cool place, but its nice if you dont like the heat and Im sure there are lots of warmer places very nearby! Why is the summer so cool in Bradford PA?
MAYBE THERES A WET SUMMER IN YOUR COUNTRY. HERE IN THE PHILLIPPINES IS A WET SUMMER TOOWhy is the summer so cool in Bradford PA?
Because each local seasonal change is not the same.

If Nazis tried to occupy USA, wouldn't they have the best shot at New England?
I think because of the geography of the New England states, a Nazi movement would most likely succeed in the 6 New England states, here's why.
1) The Nazis if they came by submarine into Long Island Sound, would be able to come in on the Hudson River Valley and form a line straight up the Hudson.... closing off everything to the East of New York State's Hudson River.
2) The same U Boats would close in on New Haven, Newport, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, Boston Harbor, New Hampshire, Portland.........
3) Then via the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Nazis would invade into maritime Canada and put a frontal line that goes over the top of Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine......
and then New England would be caged from all sides from the water and above the states......
If you were in Connecticut or Massachusetts you would have NO ESCAPE.... guns pointing at you from the sea..... you can't go North.... you try going west but the Hudson River NAzi line traps you in.....
it would be the same forces that create a Nor'easter weather pattern that would have you trapped in Nazi territory with no way out.....
so my question is more so than any other region of America, even the South, couldn't New England be the highest risk of facing inescapable turf from a Fascist Nazi Takeover???
It would be the same effect as why the pretty Liberal nation of Holland had almost 100% of their victims deported with nowhere to escape...If Nazis tried to occupy USA, wouldn't they have the best shot at New England?
You do know it's not the 1940s, right?
There are two major flaws with your scenario.
First, New York is NOT nor has it ever been a New England state.
Second, you forgot about Vermont. We have no gun laws here, and almost everyone is armed. Let them try to get through us.If Nazis tried to occupy USA, wouldn't they have the best shot at New England?
Listen, Rip van Winkle, it is the year 2011 and the Nazis are long gone.
It is possible assuming that the U-Boats could carry enough troops to actually make an impact against the militia and army in New England. They would have enough fuel for extended operations off the coast as proven by the raids in the Gulf of Mexico in '43. It is possible if they achieved complete surprise to capture a city or airfield and land some of their troops in for reinforcements. If Nazis tried to occupy USA, wouldn't they have the best shot at New England?
You assume that surrounding an area equals occupying it, this is not true.
The Nazis could not get enough troops into New England by U-boat to occupy the territory, and the one Nazi u-boat invasion of the US by German spies was a complete failure.
There would be US submarines waging a war against the U-boats which being so far from home would be not be able to re-fuel and hold their positions against New England.

What would be a good dog for me to get?
-I live with my boyfriend in a condo/apartment on the bottom floor.
-I am expecting in September, so it should be kid friendly.
-I am not dropped out of school yet, but I will have to when I have my child, so I will be home all day with the baby to take care of it.
-Me and my boyfriend would walk it in the park, but we have no yard, except a little bit of an area in the back of our house that everyone shares. It is fenced in.
-I have a Maine Coon cat and a Chihuahua already.
-This will be a family pet.
-I'd prefer a small or medium sized dog, none of those huge ones.
-I have friends over a lot, so it would have to not bark of jump, and it would have to be stranger friendly.
-I sort of have time to groom, but can't be devoted 24/7 so it would have to have low or medium grooming levels, not a high one.
-It would have to tolerate both hot and cold weather.
-I'd like one that doesn't tear things up or bite or anything.
Any suggestions or other things I could mention? Just let me know!
Sincerely,
ChelseaWhat would be a good dog for me to get?
I'd recommend waiting a bit too,, unless you're getting a nanny.
if you have a main coone cat you already have a medium sized dog. What would be a good dog for me to get?
You will be lucky to find a dog that is as perfect as you would really like to have. I have been in schnauzer rescue for 30 years and greyhuond rescue for 10. The best place to find a dog is on Petfinder.com They have every breed imaginable, and many of them have been in foster homes so the foster parents will know the dogs well. Check it out!
I don't think you're ready for another dog IMO.
You'll have your hands full with a new baby, you already have 2 pets, can't spend a lot of time exercising or grooming a dog.
You're asking for a perfect dog, and there is no such thing.
Best to wait until your baby is a bit older, and you're not so overwhelmed with responsibilities. What would be a good dog for me to get?
Hi Chelsea. A nice family pet would be a pug. Purebreads from breeders are about $800. Black ones are very cute and cuddly. Grey ones are kinda blah looking black ones have silky nice coats. With Pugs you only have to wash them once a month. No more! They have breathing problems so you have to wash their snouts once a week. And than because of their breathing problems they get very hot. In the summer when I was living with my parents I had a pug and I washed it in the kiddie pool I bought. He swam in it like twice a week. They can play tricks, bark softly, VERY friendly, they get fat but they are small, playful, harmless, they sleep a ton, and they are just well behaved. They lived up to 12 years. They usually pass around 8-9 years old. They are wonderful pets for family. your baby would get used to the pug and learn to love it. Good luck with the baby!
Sincerely,
Sarah-Ann

Pembroke welsh corgi. They are known for their good nature with other animals, dogs, cats, anything. I have a 5 month old Pembroke, and she is great with our 6 kids, golden retriever, and Siamese cat. we don't have much of a yard, either. Just google the breed, and you will find all kinds of info on it.
Good luck!
-Also pembrokes are not jumpy, snappy dogs. They are fun and playful when you want them to be, and calm and relaxed when you don't.
NOTHING. You're expecting. Focus on your baby. Nothing like the stress of a newborn and also a new puppy in the house. It'd be like having twins.
If you have a cat and a chihuahua already then why do you need anything else? Give the baby a break man.
I would recommend a young adult or adult dog rather than a puppy since you'll have a lot to handle. Why not visit your local shelter?
If you're expecting, I would wait. Puppy + Newborn might be more than you can handle, unless you're looking for an older dog.
Most smaller breeds are apartment friendly. I would research some smaller breeds, and then look into a rescue, or breeder adoption. A lot of breeders will adopt out their older, fixed dogs. Already trained and way out of puppyhood.
As many have suggested, I would wait to get any dog until after the baby comes and you aren't overly stressed out.
Regardless of what type of dog you get, it is up to YOU to ensure that his behavior is what you require. No dog just comes with a particular set of manners, except perhaps an adult dog that is already trained and well-mannered that you adopt from a rescue or shelter (having said that, I don't know if it would be an easy find, otherwise why would they be in a shelter/rescue in the first place?). You must train them and be consistent. Even with this, the dog may never be exactly what you envision. Please take your time. Dogs are not disposable, they are living beings. It would be very unethical to get a dog, not be happy with it and then surrender it to a shelter or rescue...you would just be contributing to the homeless animal population and that is wrong.
Congrats on the baby and please, think this decision through carefully and be responsible if you do get another dog.
does it have to be pure bred? go to the shelter and see what they have that meets your profile
Well, based on your criteria, definately don't get a puppy. One who doesn't tear things up and bite? That IS a puppy!

Can you guys read this and tell me if you think it sounds good/flows well?
“Stephen Crane once said that he wrote The Red Badge of Courage because reading the cold history was not enough; he wanted to know what it was like to be there, what the weather was like, what the men’s faces looked like. In order to live it he had to write it. This book was written for much the same reason.” (Michael Shaara).
I was hesitant to buy this book with the fear that it would be another dull summary of the Battle of Gettysburg. But from the very first pages, one of the most illustrious battles in American history came to life. Shaara’s use of multiple viewpoints exposes the inner thoughts of Robert E. Lee, Joshua Chamberlain, James Longstreet and other men who fought there, and shows both armies aspects. Shaara spent a great deal of time researching the warrior’s letters and journals, making The Killer Angles possibly the most accurate work of Civil War literature ever written.
Although Shaara didn’t change any facts, The Killer Angels must be considered historical fiction because he condensed some of the action and language for the sake of clarity, making it easier to read his descriptions of historic events. He also. He also added dialogue based on his best guess of what was said, such as Stewart and Lee’s private conversation when the former finally arrived late to the action. When people learn about the Civil War, they tend to read boring, nonfiction books that don’t give any insight into how different people interacted or why certain affairs transpired the way they did. By contrast, Shaara analyzes the details and brings these points to life. For example, he writes of how Union General John Buford’s with one of his aids about his strategy for defending Gettysburg. “That’s a narrow road Lee’s coming down, and if we stack them back there they’ll be a while getting untracked. But the point is to hold long enough for the infantry. If we hang onto these hills, we have a good chance to win the fight that’s coming. Understood?’” (51). Buford explains that was holding the high ground because he was waiting for the infantry, as opposed to most non-fictional accounts which would just say that Buford was holding the high ground—with no mention of his reasoning behind it.
The Killer Angels recounts the Battle of Gettysburg differently than all other books, through viewpoints of leaders, giving the reader a better understanding of the character traits of people through their actions and internal monologues. Col. Joshua Chamberlain, for example, received a group of mutinous soldiers from a different regiment, and had orders told to shoot them if they didn’t listen to command. Chamberlain internally ponders the idea of shooting his own soldiers. “Kilrain says tell the truth. Which is? Fight. Or we’ll shoot you. Not true. I won’t shoot anybody.” (29). Chamberlain can’t find it in himself to consider shooting his war-torn statesmen (the mutinous soldiers, like Chamberlain, were from Maine). Internal monologues like these put The Killer Angels on another level for war accounts, because they show character traits, such as Chamberlains refusal to shoot his fellow statesmen, through the characters’ own thoughts.
Another great aspect of this book comes from its impartial view towards the North and the South; it just tells the story like it happened. Civil War books are often extremely biased towards one side, the Union or the Confederates. These books tend to glorify the side they praise while trying to make the other seem like savages. The Killer Angels however, explains what occurred with an unbiased view towards politics, showing the glorious decisions and the mistakes leaders from each side made throughout the course of the battle. The Killer Angels shies away from favoring one side, and instead tells the story, as it truly happened, making it a great account of Gettysburg.
This is a fantastic book: unique in that it is historically accurate, while telling a non-partisan story from multiple viewpoints of different military leaders. I highly suggest The Killer Angels to everybody, not only Civil War fans. It is history come to life, as compelling as any novel, all the more amazing for its insight into one of the most pivotal events in American history. Can you guys read this and tell me if you think it sounds good/flows well?
errors first as i noted them as i spotted them
second paragraph you spell Angels Angles
third paragraph you have a rogue "He also." that needs deleting
same paragraph aides not aids (you are talking about one of his aides-de-camp"
last sentence of that paragraph needs a "he" - explains that "he" was holding
no guarantee i've found them all!
it reads well and you certainly have justified the positive stance you have taken towards this book - i wouldn't want to suggest anything that waters down your argument but do feel it might be more accurate to refer to the "supposed" inner thoughts in your second paragraph as clearly the author does not know that they are all accurate and in most cases will be relying on accounts written some time later rather than contemporaneous ones.
all in all i think this is a good piece of work
I was hesitant to buy this book with the fear that it would be another dull summary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
How to get rid of fleas?
So I've had a cat for almost eight years now, and, in our old home, she never had a single flea on her. I used the Hartz UltraGuard Pro flea and tick drops for cats, the kind you put on the skin between their shoulder blades. And I never saw a single flea.
Then we moved, and it was like a flea explosion. They're on the cat, they're in my bed, they're biting her, they're biting me. She (the cat) rarely goes outside, occasionally the nice weather is too much for her to ignore and she'll sneak out for a few minutes, but she's mainly an indoor cat. I used the Hartz UltraGuard drops that I've always used, I washed my sheets, swept and mopped (all hardwood floors, no carpeting) the floors, and gave my kitty a bath with cat shampoo (which was something, let me tell you, she's a Maine Coon and a BIG cat). I'm going to get a flea fogger bomb thing for this weekend, but I was wondering...WHAT CAN I DO?? The little buggers are nasty, I have bites on my ankles and having fleas in my bed is just disgusting. I've been trying to make sure the cat 100% NEVER goes outside anymore, but, really, this is just ridiculous. Any tips??How to get rid of fleas?
First, ditch the Hartz product. There is a reason poison control has dedicated lines for certain of the flea products sold in stores. She may never really been exposed to fleas, so your treatments were for something that was not really present, and now that they are, you are finding the product doesn't really work.
A flea bomb will be a great aid. And, assuming she is healthy, I suggest Revolution. It will kill the fleas within 15-30 minutes, so they will be unable to lay any eggs. You need to break the flea-egg cycle, and that is 3-8 weeks, so rigorous treatment of the home, and three treatments of Revolution (it lasts for a month) and your problem should be solved.
There is another thing you can consider once the flea problem is over. Giving a daily tablet of Brewer's yeast, available in health food stores. I had a problem long before the vet products were commonly available, and getting the numbers down to a minimum, using Brewer's yeast, and a flea bomb on the house ended it once and for all. Fleas don't like the taste of blood of a cat that has taken Brewer's yeast.
But what is happening is that you are bringing in fleas from outside, as there may be a population explosion in your yard. You may have to look into treatment methods for your outside also. How to get rid of fleas?
Fleas come in via your shoes and clothing--and your squirrels outdoors are probably the cause.
Do NOT dose the cat again, the drops are for a full month, doing another dose of anything would be a toxic overload that does permanent damage to the cat's liver function, if it doesn't outright kill the cat.
Get your vacuum. Any flea vacuumed up will die in the process. Vacuum the floor boards, carpet, furniture, any cracks the fleas are hiding in along the walls and wood floors, and do this daily. It'll take out a lot of the fleas so you only have to deal with the hatching eggs when those mature.
Once your cat's ready for another treatment, go to Advantage or Revolution or Frontline. They're far FAR safer than Hartz (google 'hartz lawsuit' if you don't believe me) and will work better. Advantage, we found, not only does not sting the cat's skin on the neck, the protective coverage works for 6 full weeks (even on outdoor cats) instead of the 4 weeks it claims..How to get rid of fleas?
Use a flea bomb, for the house (You and the cats cannot be in the house, its dangerous). Because they aren't just on the animals. And, wash your cat in a flea bath. Both of these things you can get at target or walmart. I have 3 cats and we did that and it got rid of all fleas.

How do I convince my husband to move to Florida?
I was born in Florida, and now I live in Maine. I have been with him for 8 yrs, 2 of them married. He has always known that I want to move back, but I have been hesitant because of family up here. But now I am completely fed up with the snow and cold and just plain miserable conditions of the long winters here. Even the summers can be less than desirable. I have family in Florida too, so I am ready to make the move. I have been very unhappy with my life right now, partly because the weather is always so miserable, I can't get out and do anything. I have had S.A.D. ("winter blues disorder") since I moved up here, and I think I just need to move back so I can be a happy person all year long. I really love my husband, and I really want him to want to see how it would be good for both of us. At the same time, I feel that I need to move no matter what...I can't live half my life (winter months) unhappy-I've only got one life to live. I feel very torn. Help! How do I convince my husband to move to Florida?
Take your vacations in the winter, maybe he'll see the light. but please remember. happiness comes from inside, not who or what's around you.
I lived in Florida for a year, but now I live in Maine. I'm originally from PA, though. I moved to Maine 2 years ago and hate it. I miss Florida so much and want to move back once I graduate from college. It was so nice not having to deal with long, cold, snowy winters. Good luck with your move.
how can weather snap u out of a funk! if ur miserable, u'd be miserable here in florida also
Marriage is about compromise and not all about your needs and wants. You should talk to him and let him know how you feel and see if you can come to a mutual agreement but you might have to decide if living in Florida is more important than your husband. How do I convince my husband to move to Florida?
Tell him,: "Hay baby either me or Maine !
First of all, talk to him and let him know that you'd like to seriously consider moving to Florida in the near future and see what his feelings are currently. Maybe try a vacation there for a week or two. Spend part of the time goofing off at the beach and theme parks and part of it looking at the housing market a bit. You'll have fun, so it'll be a vacation but also its a tour of the Florida environment like you'd tour a house to see if you like it.
You just have to hope he agrees to go with you. You settled for being there when you married him. If he never agreed to move to Florida prior to marrying you, manipulating him to do so now is unfair. I realize you are having some depression, but what will moving away do to your husband? You just need to talk to him, but realize that you agreed to live there when you married him 2 years ago. If you weren't going to be happy, you should have been fair to him to begin with. This is a MAJOR issue that should have been resolved PRIOR to marriage.
I just gave up a good career to move to Fla. from N.H. so my wife could be warm. Just had a pool installed and we'll be swimming by Christmas!!!!
It's 78 now and ironically....she's all bundled up!!!!!
Over 20 years of cold winters was enough for us.
Didn't want to wait until we were retired to enjoy life.
Life's too short to freeze!!!
idk how you convince him, unless you can get across to him how unhappy you are with the cold, snow, and ice, believe me when i tell you i know exactly how you feel as i am from southern California, and i live in Michigan, and i hate this state for those reason, and the mosquitoes and if i wasn't living on such a limited income i would move somewhere warm in a heartbeat. tell him you have done it his way for 8 years and now it is his turn to live where you want to live near your family, or maybe even somewhere else where else where it is warm,
you need to tell him how unhappy the cold makes you and how happy he makes then how happy florida makes you and happy you would be if you had both!
p.s:i live in Boca and LOVE florida! i cant imagine living in the cold!
you shouldn't have married him then.
Why not just take a trip for now and go. if you refuse to come back to him, maybe he'll come down and see why!
Well, i have never once talked to or answered something like this... I was born and raised in maine and then quickly moved to palm beach directly after high school. Granted i am only 24 years old, but the oppertunities in fla are countless, there are palm trees, blue skies, cute little lizards... The good things are endless, but most of all, how can anybody wake up with the world litteraly at thier fingertips and not lead a happy life?! I think it is the sunshine that makes people alive and happy down there! From experience i have learned that there is no place like maine ( "the way life should be" ). And where i am so young i NEED to embrace the lovely part of the world that allows you to start fresh and be whoever you want to be... That doesn't happen in maine! I am flying back christmas eve. WHAT A RELIEF!!!! I wish you the best! Hopefully your husband will trust your instinct of a more fullfilling life!
Hmmm, let's think: earlier this week, it was -4 in Bangor; supposed to be about 80 in Tampa this weekend...
Florida is a dynamic and vibrant state with great potential - for individuals, for couples, for families, for business - for Life and living.
I think that potential for the best of the best isn't the Florida east coast or Miami or Naples. The Nature Coast (north of Tampa) holds the greatest potential. See:

Traveling to see family in Maine should be no problem. Too, once you are in Florida, you may find some of the Maine family members want to spend more time with you than they do even now... (smile)
There's nothing in Maine your husband can't have in Florida - except, possibly, you.

My cat is so fat he can't clean his butt! Ideas?
He's a Maine Coon, which is a large breed, but he's well over 20+ pounds and his kitty diet food has done little/nothing to help him. He's getting outside more now that the weather is nice and I play with him daily, but he's just too huge to reach back there. He's normally very sweet and relaxed, but come at him with a baby wipe or any intention of giving him a bath and he goes mountain lion on my a$$ (although I do suit up and bathe him about once every two weeks). He's disgusting and it's grossing me out! What else can I do to help him?My cat is so fat he can't clean his butt! Ideas?
Are you doing full on baths, or just butt baths? If you're doing the former, try just doing the latter. Or just keep using the wipes. Be sure to give him a nice treat afterwards too.
Get him a kitty brazilian. Shaving off his bloomers will be a HUGE help!
And last but not least, diet. Not only will my plan help him lose weight, but it's possible that better food will also firm the stool up quite a bit so you won't have to deal with so many dingleberries. (Or maybe the problem is just urine smell?)
From my blog:
In a nutshell, most cats are fat because they've been fed too much (free-feeding or indulging them) and because they're fed dry food which is NOT appropriate food for them due to the grain/carb/sugar content. Cats are obligate carnivores who need to eat a high meat-based protein diet, which is also high in fats and low in carbs.
Many vets, who are sadly ignorant on the topic of proper cat nutrition, will recommend prescription diet foods (usually dry). Cats are expected to lose weight on a starvation diet of 1/4 or 1/3 cup of food per day. Everyone is miserable in these situations.
The solution is to switch the fat cat (and any others in the household as well) to a good quality canned food. Because these foods are species appropriate, the cat will lose weight at a safe, slow pace (no more than 1 pound per month). Switching foods needs to occur slowly, and if you're trying to get a kibble junkie to eat canned food, that will happen naturally.
How much should cats eat?
This varies. Average cats may eat between 20-30 calories per pound per day. But note that that is IDEAL pounds. Using 25 calories per day for example, an 8 pound cat could eat 200 calories per day. By the same token, a cat who weighs 20 pounds but should weigh 10 could eat 250 calories per day. You multiply the ideal weight by the calories to arrive at that figure. When working toward weight loss, it's perhaps best to start at the lower end of the scale (20).
How do I find out how many calories are in cat food? See the link "Values in canned food." If it's not listed there, you'd need to contact the manufacturer.....I believe that link provides some help there as well.
That's it. Easy as pie. Not only will fat cats lose weight, but it and any others in the home will reap many benefits of eating a speciies appropriate diet.
See the links below for detailed information on this topic.
UPDATE: Poppy lost 5 pounds and Sophie lost 2 following this plan (from October to October). Each cat gets one can (5.5oz) of Nature's Variety Instincts per day. No one is starving or miserable. My vet is happy with her progress and so am I. Only 4 pounds to go!
That is a very unique problem. You certainly show alot of kindness towards you cat. Have you tried shooting the hose at him? No, I don't think that would be right. OK, I thinkyou should feed him sleeping tablets with his kitty diet. Then when he is sleeping, give him a good cleaning. Its only right, you know, he would probably do the same for you.My cat is so fat he can't clean his butt! Ideas?
Bless his furry little heart! You sound like you are being a very good parent to him. Is the hair long around his -for lack of a cuter word- anus? Even if it's fairly short maybe making it even shorter would allow less to be messed up back there? I can understand your concern. I have a Himalayan that frequently comes out of his box with a "cling-on" When his rear is more trimmed, there is less of a problem with that.
Cut down on the food and treats right away and take to the vet about this serious problem! My cat is so fat he can't clean his butt! Ideas?
I think you should approach him with the baby wipe in a different way. Play with him a little first, pet him and distract him. While he is distracted, wipe his *** real quick so he doesn't see it coming and go mountain lion on you. :P
Diet potato chips don't cut it. You need to stop feeding kitty crack aka dry food.
Carbs = pounds especially for an obligate carnivre
Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat鈥檚 health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or is it meal or other things? Learn what meal and other things mean here.
http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Rea鈥?/a>
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i鈥檚 and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms of food allergies proabbly from the grains. Constipation? Dry food, not enough moistire. Blockages? Again not enough moisture in the food and you are risking something serious.
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food (Cats are not naturally big drinkers) but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at all or grains at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food as it uses a muscle meat as the first ingrediant. 9lives, friskies whiskas are lower grade canned but still better then dry and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. The optimum food to feed cats has no grains whatsoever, cats have no use for them and many have trouble processing them as well as the carbs. IBD is another disease that is rapidly becoming common amoung cats because of the inappropriate diets being fed.
Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? Why do people constantly repeat this old wives tale and put teeth over the organs like the kidneys?? (I have no clue) http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bp鈥?/a>

baby wipes will make his bum sting that's why we only use them outside the body use feminine wipes for women hypoallergenic ones they wont sting him as for bath in stages use a wet sponge instead on his body even rinse him with it
Put him on a diet. Skip the diet food. Get quality food (NOT supermarket) and give him about 1/2 of what you are feeding now. About 1/4 cup or a little less should work. Add canned or frozen green beans or mixed veggies so he won't think he is being starved.
In addition, you could also take him to a groomer and have them trim a poop chute which will help him stay clean.
I to have a Maine Coon cat that has the same problem. My cat (Smokie) is 29 pounds and can barely move. He has a really hard time cleaning himself, so every month ( expecially in the summer months) I take him to the groomers. It is not that expensive, about $25 per visit, but it helps so much. I also started last year, having them shave his body in the summer this really helps with that problem. About the weight issue, about four years ago the vet actually kept smokie for two weeks to make sure he stuck to the diet, and he ended up gaining two pounds. Sometime cats are just big, if he's happy that is all that matters.
Take him to the vet and get proper help and advice.
(And DON'T give your cat sleeping pills as someone suggests)
Ken has it pegged... Just switch your cat to a wet food. I did this with my cat and now he's about 2/3 the size he used to be.

Wh do COLD FRONTS affect the eastern parts of the nation more than the Western?
It seems like 75% of cold fronts dont affect places like Nevada, western montana, New mexico, and westwards.
how come most cold fronts have a targe to where it's heading. how come it doesnt overtake the whole country. like you know when the metorologistsshow the blue lines, the cold front could be moving from northwest to southeast and othr times, mostly irregualr directions. the eastern part of the front may be around Maine while te Western side is around Minnesota, and in the middle, it makes like a strtcing shape.
i caint explain it, but you know, since yall know about the weather.
so how come cold fronts come like that.
sometimes they may affect the Northeast with below zero temperatures while the Southeast has temperatures in the 30's. In a lot of cold fronts and the ones that have come this year, Tennessee has been seeing lower temps, then Some parts parts of the northeast.
so what causes the fronts to send more cold air to some places and leaves others warmer?Wh do COLD FRONTS affect the eastern parts of the nation more than the Western?
Fronts are caused by moving air masses, warm or cold. For cold fronts over North America, they form over Canada. This air mass is titled "Continental Polar". This means it is a cold dry air mass. One key feature that allows this air mass to push south is the polar jet stream (This is a flow of air aloft that moves roughly west to east). During the winter months the air over canada becomes colder due to less radiation from the sun and the sub polar jet pushes south.
So when a cold front moves south it flows usually northwest to southeast. Main reason it doesn't effect Nevada or New mexico much is because of the Rocky mountains. The rockies play as a wall. This is because cold air is dense.
I hope this makes sence.Wh do COLD FRONTS affect the eastern parts of the nation more than the Western?
how sickWh do COLD FRONTS affect the eastern parts of the nation more than the Western?
Well, they certainly affect the West Coast a lot--cold fronts are the big rain producers in California, Oregon and Washington. If you're wondering why aren't as cold, it's because the air has been in contact with the Pacific Ocean, which is not exactly warm but is above freezing. Inland in the west the structure of the cold fronts is adversely affected by a series of mountain ranges they have to cross: the coast and peninsular ranges, the Sierra Nevada, the mountains of the Basin and Range, and the Rockies. Because of this, they end up a bit ill-defined, but nevertheless they do affect all the areas you're talking about. East of the Rockies the fronts often appear to re-form, often fueled by the temperature contrast between cold continental air from Canada and the Arctic and warm moist air from the Gulf of Mexico.

Do you like my story?
I blinked my eyes. It was six in the morning. Drat. I had to go to school today. Not that I don't want to go to school. It's just that I hate getting up at six in the morning. I sat up on my bed. Looked over at my sister. Sound asleep. Like always. I yawned. This was going to be a long day. I forced myself to get up. I grabbed the clothes I picked out yesterday and headed for the bathroom. I don't like to get changed in my room because in the morning my sister is right there and I don't want to change in front of her. That is why I always bring my clothes into the bathroom. I just put them on after I take a shower.
At like 6:15 I came out of the bathroom and went downstairs. I walked into the kitchen seeing my brother, Cameron(15), watching the news. I went into the kitchen and opened the cabinet. I took out the cereal and poured myself a bowl. I took my cereal into the living room and sat down on the couch. I watched as the weatherman or meteorologist or something like that told us about the weather. As far as I was concerned, in March there are a few showers and mostly days that have a lot of white puffy clouds.
Twenty minutes later I yelled upstairs for my sister to come down. That is just like Caitlyn. Always staying upstairs until only a couple minutes are left before we go out to the bus stop. She comes down eats a granola bar or something. My other brother, Freddie (Cameron's twin brother. Younger by like 10 minutes), isn't so bad. He stays in his room but comes out to have a decent breakfast. Oh, did I tell you Caitlyn is in the sixth grade. She is kind of annoying. Thinks she is so great because she got a boyfriend before me. I mean Sam isn't that great. All he does is come to our house, eats then leaves. He only takes her to movies so they can make out. I looked at the time on the TV. It was already 6:40. We needed to leave.
I grabbed my backpack and yelled upstairs, "Caitlyn it's time to go."
"I'm coming." Sarah yelled down. "You don't need to freak out because we are going to be one second late leaving for the bus stop."
"I wasn't freaking out." I argued with her. "I was just telling you that it was time to go." I walked out the door. You know how sisters can be always argueing about little things. I mean the other day we got in an arguement because I said that some people always eat sandwiches on hamburger buns. I mean I don't know anybody who does but there has to be people out there who do. I'm sorry. I shouldn't argue about something that stupid.
When the bus came I walked on and sat where I usually sit. On the left side five seats down. I don't have any of my friends on my bus so I just stare out the window. I mean
Ashley is okay but she sits with my sister Caitlyn. Anyways, nobody talks on the bus until the high school students get off and in the afternoon on the bus ride home.
20 minutes later we all got off the bus and went into the school. We live in a pretty small town if you will call it that. We live in Maine. We live in a small town called Brooks. I know you have never heard of it. It is a very cozy town. We go to school at Reeds Brook Middle School. They have grades 6-8 there. My brothers go to Mountain Brook High School. My sister and I will go there also. So anyways we got off the bus and went into the middle school. Everyone has to sit in the auditorium and wait for the first bell to ring.
I sat down next to one of my friends, Sarah. "Hi Sarah."
Sarah looked up from her Ipod. "Hi Jamie."
We talked to eachother until the bell rang. Everybody got up and went out the door. It is very hard to squeeze 200 kids through two doors. After I got through that diaster, I went to get my stuff for my classes. I did my combination. It is so easy you can't forget it. It is 15 10 20. Isn't that easy to remeber. After I got my stuff I went to my chill time or home room as some schools call it. I had Ms. Jacobs for a chill time teacher. She is a really nice teacher. I had her last year for a six grade math teacher.
I walked into our chill time to see the boys, Liam, Cory, and Alex already on the computer. For the past two years they all have been going on it for chill time. The only boy in our chill time that doesn't waste his time on the computer was Rob. He is kinda cute, but I didn't really like him. I walked over to the desk in the top left corner and started to lean back in it. I didn't have any of my friends in my chill time so I just sat there. All the other girls, Diana, Rachel, and Harper talked to eachother. The only other girl in our chill time was Nicole. She was always late for chill time. She would come in just as the announcements were over.
Just as I had predicted, Nicole came in a second before the announcements were over. We all got up and went to our classes. I had math, english, and science before lunch. I'm in Pre-Algebra because I am pretty good with math. English is also fun. Our teacher is really funny and doesn't make us do a lot of work and only gives out a little homework. As for science. Well the teacher can be kind of strict and mean. She won't let us lean back in our chairs. And take it from somebody who does it everyday, it is very hard not to lean back in your chair when you automatically do it. I've gotten into so much troble by her. I had to go down to the office once but luckily I didn't get in trouble.
Lunch is great. I can sit and talk with my friends. After I got pizza from the cafeteria I went to sit with my friends. All of my friends were Sarah (from the auditorium), Carly, Megan, Tyler, and Jake. Yes I am friends with boys. Jake is really stupid. I mean really stupid. We always joke that he belongs in preshool instead of seventh grade. Tyler, he went to the school I used to go to and when he came to Brooks we just became friends again. He is really nice. Kind of smart to. People always tell me that he likes me more than a friend. He is just my friend and I have never thought of him as more than a friend. He may like me but it is okay. If he asks me out I'll turn him down though. Megan is a cheerleader. I know everybody says that cheerleaders are really mean people but Megan is nice. Carly can be kind of gross and a tom boy. She always eat like aboy. I mean she will stuff her mouth with food and then talk with her mouthful. We tell her to stop but she won't listen. Sarah reads a lot and always has a book with her.Do you like my story?

14 year old aspiring writer - Please critique this excerpt from my novel!?
I am in the process of writing a novel that, in my biggest of dreams, will become successful one day. I am 14 years old and only recently discovered my love of writing....I still have a long way to go. Please excuse and don't base the entire critique on the punctuation mistakes I probably made...I'll always have time for the technicalities. I just want solid reviews on the quality of writing. Here are a few excerpts:

Augusts in Maine were hotter than they have ever been during those three years of the clubhouse. 1973 was the middle year, the core year, and fittingly, it was scorching to a further extent than any other year I can remember. August of 鈥?3 was something like a moment in time captured and stretched over thirty-one days. The weather was consistent, hot and bright, the type of hot that causes one to ponder the existence of Mother Nature. It was the type that caused Nicole and me to ponder her existence, at least...we wondered if such hot spells truly could occur without a specific and highly powerful influence.
2.
I don鈥檛 believe I changed or influenced Nicole; I wanted to. I believed it was my role to dramatically alter her feelings or concerns; to tell her that everything was just fine and that she needn鈥檛 worry. I didn鈥檛 feel so certainly that it was my place, however, as the situation unraveled; we had reversed roles in a very unusual way: I was flustered and depressive, and Nicole was calm and comforting, seeming to effortlessly free me of my worries. I had to hear her through; I couldn鈥檛 become entangled in my own thoughts and lose sight of the actual situation. For, this time, there was a situation. I have found through time that is pathetically easy to believe a situation is apparent when it is actually nonexistent, though it is nearly impossible to be unaware of a true situation鈥檚 being. Not everything works vice versa.
I am glad, however, that I didn鈥檛 change Nicole鈥檚 perception, for I don鈥檛 believe there was or is or ever will be a better one. Nicole was firmly grounded in reality, yet drifted into her dreams whenever she saw fit, never allowing herself to become preoccupied with either, yet always allowing herself the freedom to explore both.
I wish that I could be so strong.
.....There they are! I'll post more! I know it's hard to understand without the entire context, but I hope you can still offer a little help. I want honest reviews, but I also want tact. I want to be a writer more than anything else in the world...it's the only thing I have a real passion for. Constructive critique (not blunt declarations of how pathetic I am, like I have received in the past...if you hate it, tell me why so I can improve!) will really help me grow as a writer.
Thanks :)14 year old aspiring writer - Please critique this excerpt from my novel!?
You've got a lot of potential, I think you just need to get a bit more comfortable with your writing style. In these excerpts it looks like you're trying too hard to sound sophisticated, there's a lot of unnecessary explaining that could be put more simply - readers don't like to have to pick apart each little phrase, they want it to flow naturally. You seem to repeat yourself a lot where there's no need, and remember to try not to repeat the same word in one paragraph (unless it's an exception and that's the whole point).
Anyway I'm being harsh here because I know you could be a good writer. In my opinion, it's not a good idea to rush into writing a novel straight away, try practising first - write a lot of rubbish and read alot. Then when you truly feel comfortable with your style and know it's time to tackle it - start a novel.
Just my opinion. Good luck :)

Well, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them! They are fantastic!! I'm 11 and also want to be a writer... :)

*Yawn* Sorry, that really, really, bored me. I wouldn't even read a novel like this. Maybe in book form it would be better, and if I had more background on it, but this just bored me.
And when I read this I think I had deja-vu... like I read a book like this before, like it's not original.
That's just my opinion. But don't give up on being a writer, because your actually an okay writer, it's just that your plot/idea bored me.14 year old aspiring writer - Please critique this excerpt from my novel!?
it looks to me like you are a writer, and you have a talent from going over this text.
At times, the language you use is too precious. Don't ever ever use words like "ponder" ("reflect," "think," etc) or "seeming" (too vague, filler material), or "for I don鈥檛 believe" (the "for" should never be used in this way, it sounds medieval.
For me, writing is about using as few, simple words as possible. I recently read "On Writing" by Stephen King (yes, the same Stephen King). Very useful. give it a shot (and there's a reading list at the end). You should also read "Saturday" by Ian McEwan. The best living English writer. Rewrite some of the passages, slowly.
What I'm trying to say is, reading books is as important as writing. If you can sleep a few hours a day, you should do as much writing as you do reading. If you can't, read more, write less, but read every day. By 20 you should've read all the world's greatest novels.

What should I insulate first?
My husband and I own a home that is over 150 years old. At least one of the rooms is the original plaster and lathe, but some of the rooms have been redone with sheetrock or aren't part of the original house. It's a central chimney cape. The first floor is full, the second floor has sloped ceilings and knee walls with attic space behind the knee walls accessible through small doors.
We don't have a lot of money for this project so need to do what will get us the most bang for our buck and everything else can wait until later.
We are going to get some of the door and window foam sealer to go around all the doors and windows to start, and we will be shrink wrapping the windows and the large sliding glass door.
This is what we want to insulate:
Nothing in the cellar is insulated (we can only do around the floor as it's a fieldstone basement that gets wet) including the floor, around the footing, the windows (which are very old), anything.
As far as I know of there's no sheathing outside (my olive oil in the cupboard goes solid) or insulation on the interior side walls.
There is 3" thick hard foam insulation on the floor of the attic that has gotten wet from the roof leaking on it. Mostly it covers the floor but there are gaps (so obviously the heat from the floor below comes up through)
There are batts of insulation on the unconditioned side of the upstairs knee walls (in the attic)
There is weather stripping around the edges of the attic doors and a piece of the rigid insulating board behind the doors.
What should be the priority to save energy this winter?
I live in Maine and it gets pretty cold and we have a wood stove for heat because the forced hot air system is pretty useless. What should I insulate first?
Highest priorities should be any areas that actually let cold air in or which feel unusually cold in the winter. Hot air rises, so all else being equal you want to insulate the ceiling first, then walls, then floors. Walls are usually the most expensive to insulate, so if money's tight you may want to save that for last.
Foam insulation typically does not hold water, so the insulation in your attic should be OK.
Do your furnace and stove have outside air intakes? If not, they can draw cold air into your house. What should I insulate first?
Insulate the attic First for sure, it is the most important place to insulate. Why? In the winter, cold air falls downwards and the attic is your first line of defense against the cold air falling straight down on your roof. And, in the summer, the hot sun is constantily beating down on your roof, so in the summer time, the attic is again your first line of defense.
Realistically, no matter how much insulation you have in your attic, more is even better.
Styrofoam sheets verses Fiberglass battings. -- Fiberglass is a lot cheaper per R value. However, if you have very little space to place your insulation then strofoam is higher R value per depth (per inch).
For example: To Get an R value of 11 - you need 6 inches of fiber glass or 2 inches of Styrofoam -- But the styrofoam will cost you twice as much money to achieve an R value of 11. --

Out of all these states which state is the best one to live in?
I am currently living in New Jersey and I have been looking to move out of this state for the past 3 years. We are planning on moving before the end of this year. I'm 21 years old with no college degree living with my single mom. The both of us work part-time but plan on looking for full-time jobs. I am potentially going to start college in the new state a couple of months after I move in. We want to get out of the extreme cold winters and move to a place with mild winters. We are trying to gather a persons opinion on which state you recommend for us to move to.

Florida is really a nice place to live (the below applies to smaller Floridian cities, I'm comparing this to Sarasota and smaller surrounding areas).
Crime: In this area, crime is generally not too prevalent, except once in a while some dumb teenagers might kick down your mailbox.
Roadway: Since I-75 IS a common way to travel through Gulf beaches and is a large freeway throughout the US, this can get clogged occasionally. The city roads won't do you too much bad, though.
Education: The schools generally are nothing too outstanding, just average, other than Pine View School for the Gifted, which requires an IQ of 130 and really does have amazing education programs.
Rural areas: Areas around central and some northern parts can get pretty rural, but try to stay around large colleges or in a coastal city and you'll be okay.
Racism and Unhospitality: Okay, I admit.. Somewhere a bit south of Tampa there is a Confederate flag, but other than that it's okay.
Unfavorable Climatology: Hurricanes, yes, hurricanes. There are hurricanes, but they usually veer from Sarasota or are weakened down. I'm not even kidding: Hurricane Charley (2004) was literally weakened down to Category 1 by the time it reached us. However, unlike tornadoes, hurricanes are predictable, so as long as you're not an idiot and stay inside if it's weak or evacuate when it's strong, you're pretty much okay.
Favorable Climatology: Sun, sun, beaches, beaches. There is warm weather. In summer it can get to about 95 degrees and unless it's an odd year, winter is usually no colder than 50 degrees. I have never seen snow in my entire lifetime unless I was on vacation.
Don't move to New Hampshire! It is cold, has tons of snow, has bad schools, everything is spread out (in a lot of areas) and rural and the people are very cold and racist!
I like the suburbs of Chicago, South Carolina, and Virginia a lot!Out of all these states which state is the best one to live in?
I would say Arizona
Have you considered Texas? I see it was not on your list. The job situation is better here than many places, but we are still recovering from the hangover called the Great Recession, also. If you are looking at college in a few years, you might like Austin. Lots of colleges especially UT-Austin which dominates the city, but there are others as well. It is progressive open-minded city and both you and your mother might find work full-time. Traffic can be a bear, but they do have a transit system which is better than most in Texas. The schools are usually good and the crime rate is better than most places. Austin, like most urban areas in the state, have lots of transplants from other places so you won't be "out of place."
Climate: warm most of the time including winter--which will seem more like a late Fall to you. Summers are hot, but everything from homes to apartments to cars, etc are air conditioned so that is not so much an issue. Also, you are very close to the Texas Hill Country which is a pretty and very rugged area near Austin all the way down to San Antonio--another option, about 80 miles from Austin. Lots of Austinites are into hiking, camping, and there is nightlife on 6th street and other areas more favored by locals. Austin is too far inland to be affected by hurricanes and tornados are more common a little north of there--Dallas-Fort Worth seems to get sucker punched by them every so often.
Anyway, best to your mother and you as you search for a better lifeOut of all these states which state is the best one to live in?
I'm originally from Mn, lived their for most of my life %26amp; my dad lives in Jersey so I am very familiar with both states. I LOVE MN, but if you are looking for mild winters, scratch it off your list unless 10 and even less below degrees is considered mild for you :)
P.s. All of my family in NJ could never survive a Mn winter lol
Good Luck %26amp; Have Fun!
given the choice, I'd move to Arizona
currently most of the sunbelt states are economically worse off than those in the Northeast and Great Plains
All of those states have at least one of things you mentioned on your avoid list
Judging by your avoid list , you are probably best off in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area
or though it's not on your list of states you mentioned, Washington State (Seattle area), though winters are gray and drizzly
I lived in Alaska for over a year. There are a lot of alcoholics there and many people are effected by seasonal depression. The winters are so harsh you have to learn to breathe correctly lest you do harm to the lobes in your lungs. Lastly things cost more in Alaska because they must be shipped so far and this contributes to poverty.
Many of my relatives live in Oklahoma. There are lots of great schools there, the winters are mild and the big cities are BIG! From my experience the people there are friendly but the drivers are scary.

Where should we go on vacation? We will be traveling with a one year old?
We would like to go anywhere Southwest flies and are open to suggestions.
Things to consider:
-Traveling with a one year old (most important)
-Weather (expected travel in June)
-Safety
-Getting around (renting a car is okay, but then parking should be accessible)
-Things to do
-Cleansiness
-Places to stay (prefer a resort with suites or some type of condo like living)
-Good food
We have considered the following, but would consider any other suggestions:
-San Antonio, TX
-Charleston, SC
-Manchester, NH (then drive to Maine beaches)
We don't think we want to do the Midwest this time, so anywhere, south, east, or west would be good.
Even if you have tips on general travel with a one year old, that would be good.
Thank you for your help!Where should we go on vacation? We will be traveling with a one year old?
I live in houston texas, and I visit san antonio all the time , and I love it there, we always stay on the river walk, and it's really beautiful! I guaranty you'll love it!

Similarities between Washington State in New England?
I live in New Hampshire in the Boston metro area, and I travel to Seattle once in a while for work. I find it interesting how, even though two locations are separated by the entire North American continent, they seem to be remarkably similar.
The similarities I find are in:
Weather: I have temperature readings on my desktop - 80% of the time they are identical for Portsmouth, NH and Seattle!!!
Commerce: Both Washington and New England seem to have a large portion of the nation's e-business, financial institutions, and especially - New England and Washington have the most outdoor and sports companies. NE: New Balance, L.L. Bean, Life is Good, EMS; WA: REI, Cascade Designs, etc.
Nature: of course WA has way more evergreen giants, however, New England area is fairly evergreen as well! (Maine - "The Pine State", Vermont - "Green Mountain State")
Geography: Both places are coastal, cold-water, rugged coast line, mountainous terrain on the land.
I am interested to hear what you think about these comparisons. Do WA and NE really seem very much alike? What other similarities do you think of? What major differences can you think of?Similarities between Washington State in New England?
Washington state has a desert in the southeast corner
By Richland, Kennewick and Pasco
I lived in both New England and Washington state
I live in this part of washington state
The year I lived there, it never got below 40
It average 7 to 8 inches of precipitation(rain and snow) a year
It has sand storms
I do not know any part of New England, even Connecticut and Rhoda Island that has a desert in it
New England people seem more open minded
People for the east are different than people west
People from the west had the pioneer spirit that people from the east does not have
People from the east have more a history of where they came from (Europe)

What is the best state in the Southwest to move to if looking for just a minimum wage job to survive off of?
My parents are moving to Maine and I'm not in the picture. It will be pretty difficult to survive in Boston due to high taxes, high rent, not many jobs and I hate the weather here anyways.
I always loved the Southwest, especially the desert and the people are friendlier than up here in Mass.
I am 28 year old guy and have about 5 thousand saved. My plan is to sell whatever I have and buy a car and leave with just my clothes, find a cheap studio or apartment and then quickly try to find a minimum wage job.
Is this realistic? If yes where would be a good place to go? I'm considering West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and MAYBE California though I doubt I will have any luck there. What is the best state in the Southwest to move to if looking for just a minimum wage job to survive off of?
The economy is bad everywhere so I'd hate to see you move without a job. Even a minimum wage job is difficult to find right now with all the illegals.
It's a buyers market in Arizona for housing but it doesn't sound like you can afford to buy a home. You'll most likely have to find a roommate to even be able to rent on a minimum wage income. I wish you could somehow go back to school and get a degree from a college to make your future brighter - it's never too lateWhat is the best state in the Southwest to move to if looking for just a minimum wage job to survive off of?
Arizona is out, the housing market is so bad they think it will be another few years before the economy even begins to recover.
I live in NM, love it, and think it is pretty cheap to live here, esp Las Cruces or Albuquerque cause there is lots of cheap housing near the universities, and lots of minimum wage jobsWhat is the best state in the Southwest to move to if looking for just a minimum wage job to survive off of?
Currently Texas seems to be where the jobs are. Definitely eliminate any where in California. It is one of the most expensive states to live in, and it has the second highest unemployment rate in the country.
Try somewhere in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Hello, you could start with the idea of a teacher telling the class what to do. Like: OK everyone, all ready? I'm going to talk to you today about two words you all keep misusing. I know we have done some work on this already but did you take my advice? I advise you to buy a dictionary, whether you want to or not, and use it when you're not sure of the spelling!
OK that's about 8 of the words... I can't underline them here! to/two/all ready/already/ buy/advice/advise/ whether/you're
Some of the words will be harder to put into the context of the classroom so you can put them in as asides to naughty students eg "Jones! You threw something at Lorna and it went past her head and through the window. If I see that again, your head will roll, my boy." (That is see, threw, through, roll, past, and your).
Compliment somebody on their loose hair, looks like a lion's mane, lose your pen, stationery cupboard, PE next in spite of the weather, send you to the principal, can see your mother at the gate, I heard that! You're like a herd of elephants -- it will be easy to put them in once you get going. Good luck!

Honest Question who has the best fans in football? And dont just pick your cities team.?
Most dedicated fans, good or bad records, the fans who still care. Loudest, greatest traditions, and the weather they are willing to go to games in? like negatives degrees sometimes. And dont say New Orleans, cause we all know this may be the first year in a while New Orleans even knew they had a football team. So who has the best fans?
Green Bay packers? Great tradition, even in freezing temps, and they dont care about records, theyll sell out.
Cleveland Browns? In whatever the temp is snowing or not, they show up, lost there team 3 years 95-98, and they wouldnt believe it, and got them back. 2 seasons with a winning record in a decade, and they still represent the dog pound.
Pittsburgh Steelers? Cold temps, but a great football team, too their fans I dont think it would matter if they did sux. also terrible towel good tradition.
Chicago Bears? Idk y i put them in but cold city, and windy, and they are an old franchise.
Minnesota Vikings? These fans bleed gold and purple, and they never miss a game in the metrodome.
Oakland Raiders? There team has sucked lately, although they did have succes in the early 2000's, but the black hole is still in Oakland.Great costumes too.
Washington Redskins? The pig noses. I dont know where they pick this up from considering there team name is the redskins. but these fans show up snow or sunny, and they go ll out.
New England Pats? Well we dont know if they would be good fans or not if they had a bad team, but we know the entire area of new england from Boston to maine watchs these guys and dedicates there sundays to them, and they have the worst winters in any nfl season.
Buffalo Bills? The city of uffalo alot like Cleveland both on Lake Erie, so they know what cold is, although I wouldnt compare the bills fans to the Browns, you can find a Browns fan anywhere in the USA, there are more fans for them out of state actually. But Bills still go back awhile.
Other team? or one of these what do you think?Honest Question who has the best fans in football? And dont just pick your cities team.?
Pittsburgh, Oakland, Clevland, Green Bay
See them Browns fans tonight eyy.
Packers have the best fans because they always sell out their games and they will support the team no matter what. The most loyal fans are the raider fans though.
Steelers - most global fan base
Packers - you gotta be nuts to see football games at -20 degrees
Raiders - Still sell out their games even though they've been one of the worst teams over the last seven yearsHonest Question who has the best fans in football? And dont just pick your cities team.?
I would say
Packers - fans basically own the team
Steelers - Have sold out every game since 1972
Raiders - They still show up even with a crappy owner and Sh!!ty team on the field
I would probably go with Steelers, Eagle, Browns, or Packers
other than my steelers, i will put the packers, browns, eagles, and raiders as having the best fans.
I thought everyone knew Green Bay fans were the most dedicated just because of the weather alone. Pittsburgh is the only closest in my book their fans go everywhere they go. Everyone else is far away too me. I'm surprised you didn't mention Dallas fans.
Im first and foremost a Giants fan, having grown up in Jersey.
However I also root for the Raiders in the AFC
I think the Raiders have the best fans, no contest, Raiders fans take all that time and effort to show their support for their team, its just crazy. They're really enthusiastic and love the sport, and are not bandwagoners. I love my Giants, but honestly its the Raiders that are the best fans.infiniti g37 boggle online

Planning karate summer camp?
I thought I would try something different during the summer and have a karate summer camp. It would just be offered for the kids who are current in this session who are ages 9+. An aproximate guess of kids going would be 10-12. I can get a minimum of 6 chaperones (and more if I beg). (3 male 3 female all of them teach kids karate classes) It would be a week in a hotel (in state and we got great deal for price) Everyone has passed numerous first aid classes. Then I was thinking the kids could go in 2 different dirrections during the camp- they could train for a practice tournament or they could work towards their next belt level. I thought morning to earlly afternoon could be training:
1 hour of (kata/kihon or kumite it would rotate each day- the focuss)
30 minutes of each of whatever is not the focuss of the class
1 hour belt/tournament prep
30 min self defence
1 hour "games" (fun drills to go with the focus of the day)
optional private lessons
and of course their would be breaks inbetween the training which depending on weather would be in the hotell or outside.
then we thought we would watch the karate kid moviesin the eavning and then 1 day after training we would take the kids to a local lake. and hang out there. But we havn't even introduced the idea to the parents. Expenses for this are probably going to be about $1500. so really its not that bad.
Has anyone ever done anything like this (parents have already signed waivers for the class should they sign another for the camp) Is there anything I need to legally take care of I live in Maine. Any advice?Planning karate summer camp?
There are several problems with what you propose. First lets address the price. From your description it appears that you think that the price would be about $1500 ??? I can tell you from the start that if that is the case you are already in trouble. $1500 is more than many people can afford. Not only that unless things are different where you live, there are many people out of work. The economy is going to put a big damper on anyone thinking about spending a lot of money.
Then there are the other problems of liability. Not only accident liability but other issues. You would need to have "many" adults around at all times to supervise the kids. If not you risk issues I won't even go into. Having been involved in summer camps before, I speak from experience when I say I don't think you want to even begin such a large undertaking as you propose. I don't mean to be negative on the idea. It has some merit. It is just that the risk and problems totally outweigh any benefits. At the price you mention, I seriously doubt you will get more than one or two students at most.
EDIT: I see you posed additional comments. I still feel that the cost is a possible prohibiting factor. In any case the legal issues scare me. I would not be willing to be responsible for the kids, and the chaperons. If any of the chaperons were to be negligent, you are to one that would get sued. All you need is one kid to get molested or even claim that they were abused in some way to ruin you. I have personally known of several dojo that are now out of business due to such activity. It takes only one student or adult that does the wrong thing to ruin your life for ever. Unfortunately, it happens more often than people think. Your risk, your choice.Planning karate summer camp?

Pugpaws2 made several good points.
the price is high and even if the economy was good a lot of people could not afford it
you need to look more into your state laws, some states require special permits for this. especially when dealing with kids.
you will need insurance for one.
and doing it in a different state then you have a business is not a sound idea. i would keep it in the same state.
i think you are thinking too big, i would suggest starting smaller, i would do a 3 day event on the weekend more local, and have a few guest instructor, they don't have to be a big name, or famous.
plan 3 all day events start say at 6pm on Friday, or something.
a smaller event will prepare you for what you will need to plan out then jumping right into such a large project, an in this economy you don't what to spend too much unless you are going to get it back.
and in general summer camps have a lot of legalities behind them. you need to research how your state handles them
Way to expensive unless you are going to have real talent there in terms of celebrity instructors...then "maybe" it would be worth it. Honestly though I have hosted summer camps before for my own schools as well as for a few of the associations I belong to and your price is way to high. Typically a three day weekend camp is all that is needed and with room and board it should not be more than $150 top dollar if you want peopl to actually come...and you had best have some famous instructors or it will never succeed.

How to be prepared for Warped Tour?
Hi, so I'm fifteen and this is my first year at warped. I'm going tomorrow in Carson and I'm trying to figure out what to bring/what to wear. I know I have to bring lots or sunscreen and water. How much money should I bring? And also, I checked the weather and it's going to be high 70s/low 70s. So, I can't decide if I should wear shorts or skinny jeans. What do you think? Should I bring a jacket in case it gets colder at night? Oh and I'm going to wear my converse. And I once went to a sing it loud concert, and I got so starstruck when I saw them and I couldn't think of anything to say to them. I was so mad at myself later because I didn't have any stories to tell my friends about what happened when I met them, you know? This year it's possible that I might meet all time low, we the kings, and the maine. Those are all my favorite bands and I'm so scared that I won't know what to say again. Any suggestions on how to talk to them? I know, they're just people and stuff, but any good conversation starters?
Anyways, that's pretty much it. Any other advice you can give me?How to be prepared for Warped Tour?
I would bring a small drawstring bag because they won't fall off like tote bags and people behind you can't open the top like backpacks.
Bring:
-water bottle! They might make you discard it at the front, but just bring one in case they let you.
-Money. I'd say $20 for water and food (it's expensive) and however much more you want for merch.
-Sunscreen. You'll need to reapply that stuff because you'll sweat it off! Believe me, a sunglasses tan on your nose is no fun. :(
-Cell phone if you need to contact people
-Camera if you want to take pictures/videos
-Sunglasses are helpful if you don't want to be squinting all the time.
Some of this stuff is pretty optional, decide what you want and don't want to bring.
You should aim to get there an hour before the time printed on your ticket. This year, mines said 11:00AM and two bands I wanted to see ended up playing at 10:40 AM. :/ Make time for traffic on the road too.
There's no way to know the sets in advance, but DEFINITELY as soon as you get there, buy a map with the set list and stage locations for $2. Much more convenient than having to memorize the giant inflatable wall with the sets on it.
Other stuff: Check out the bands' tents early if you want to go to their signings. I always miss them because I check too late. :P And if you want to be up close for a band, go to the stage before their set time so you can move up when people leave after the previous set.
Have fun!!!How to be prepared for Warped Tour?
You seem pretty much set. Sunscreen and water are the most important. If you can handle the heat through the day, wear jeans. No need for the jacket unless you get cold easily, you're pretty packed together for most of the day, even between sets. I took 70 and came home with 14 left, but it depends on what you want to buy. The bands you said you want to meet are all really cool guys, I told Hunter from we the kings that his set was the best i'd seen that day, he looked genuinely surprised and gave me the biggest hug i've ever had. Randomosities are always a really good way to start a conversation, You have to remember that those bands are there for the whole summer and things can get pretty monotonous. But don't be star struck, if you can get over that then it's just like having a conversation with a really perverted friend.
Anyways, that's pretty much it. Any other advice you can give me?How to be prepared for Warped Tour?

Where is a good place to go for a honeymoon in april?
we are getting married on april 4, leaving for the honeymoon on april 6. we don't want the traditional warm weather cruise, beach theme, hoopla. we like the cold! my fiance and ii are from south mississippi and want to go "north-ish". we wanted maine but there are no ferries to nova scotia that time of year and that was one of our main reasons for there.. PLEASE OH PLEASE HELP..i've searched all over. i want good food, sightseeing and romantic. any ideas???Where is a good place to go for a honeymoon in april?
I would personally rent a car and tour N.England. Hit Boston and all the little fishing villages in Mass. and Conn. drive up the coast and visit maine, again, check out the little towns for a few hours, and stay a night or two in the larger cities. Portland and Bar Harbor are my favorites. When i was a kid, my family and I used to vacation each summer in the same cottage(on the beach) in Belfast. wonder if you could find something similar, and take a couple day trips. Good Luck!Where is a good place to go for a honeymoon in april?

My cat has been growling and walking strange lately, what is wrong with him?
We took him to the vet to get a worm and rabie shot about a month ago. For the past week he seems grumpy, hissing, growling and even walking with a hunched back and seems like his legs are sore. He's 5 years old and inside cat but seems to sneak outside when he can.
Also, our hamster died of wet tail about month and a half ago. Is it possible he could have wet tail? Or is there something going on with him? And the weather is getting colder and maybe his joints are sore???? He even has a hard time going up and down the stairs and he used to just run up them faster then us. He growls at you when you try to pick him up. He's a maine coon and he has always been a kind loving cat.My cat has been growling and walking strange lately, what is wrong with him?
He is definitely showing signs of being in pain. Cats are notorious for *hiding* pain, so when they show signs, it is bad.
Please have him checked thoroughly by a good vet.
I wish him well!
Glad you had the vet check it out!
i dont no which is a lot of use to you i no but i would really consider taking him to the vets
hope he's well soon bless
It doesn't sound like it is related to the shot you got a month ago and only for the past week he has been acting oddly. If he is an outside cat, it's possible he may have been bumped by a car. I would contact your vet ASAP and find out what is going on. My cat has been growling and walking strange lately, what is wrong with him?
Have him checked for a urinary tract infection by your vet.
Take him back to the vet and ask them what's up.
Same thing happened to my dog. We took him to the vet and the vet just shook his head. He said he had this happen to his cat and it could be a blood clot or something wrong with his brain. We tried antibiotics and it didn't work, so we put him to sleep last weekend.
Sounds like he's hurt his back - he may have missed a jump or been bitten. Check him over yourself gently, if he has an injury he'll squeal when you find it, then get him back to the vet. If he's been bitten, his temperature will be high and this will make him grumpy. He may also have a huge puss-filled infection that is pressing on his spine or nerve. This is exactly how my softest of soft cats behaved when he had been bitten on the back, bad tempered, couldn't walk straight, couldn't climb, high temperature, big puss-filled mass around the bite. Oh, by the way, when my vet finally diagnosed his problem and squeezed the puss out, it was so painful for the cat, he bit down on my finger and I needed a tetanus shot. Also the stinking yellow puss hit the vet in the eye. I laugh now, at the time it was horrendous. Immediately after this treatment, though, he could walk and jump just fine. (The vet was really jumping with all that gunk in his eyes.) Hope he's OK.

EASY 10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER.!!?
I had a dream that i was at a park, and that i was preparing to play a game of basketball. and So, the weather was so beautiful and calm, the sky was blue with some clouds. and it was sunset. and so when i was splaying, i tried running but i couldnt move, i moved only just slightly and i felt heavy. and so, after that, the game suddenly ended and i looked up at the sky and the sky was the same but in the middle of it, was a picture of the state of Maine, and it had fireworksaround it, and there were old school airplanes flying around it. and it was actually really pretty. so again, what does this mean.? i need a serious answer please.EASY 10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER.!!?
WOW that is a lot of dreaming! OK lets get started.
Playing Basketball: To see or play with a ball in your dream, symbolizes completeness and wholeness. It may also indicate that you need to be more in tune with the inner child within. The dream may also be a metaphor for the testicles (no laughing here dude). Consider also the phrase, "he's got balls" to indicate guts and strength. So you feel confident and sure of yourself.
The Weather: To dream about the weather, signifies your emotional state of mind. The sunshine might signify hope and happiness. Weather being a central point in you dream could also signify that you Perhaps you are trying to decide between two options.
Not being able to move or being paralyzed: Symbolically, dreaming that you are paralyzed means you are feeling helpless or pinned down in some aspects or circumstances of your waking life. You may feel unable to deal with a situation or change anything. It could also suggest that you are feeling emotionally paralyzed. You have difficulties expressing your feelings. Ask yourself if there is something you are feeling helpless about...something you have no control over? You may be feeling trapped in some situation or relationship.
Maine: Now here I am wondering if you saw the shape of Maine...or if it was just the shape like you see it on a map. Not sure where to go with this aspect of the dream without that detail, but I will give it a try. Maine is a funny shape...kind of like a triangle: To see a triangle in your dream symbolizes your aspirations, potential and truth. It represents your spirituality: the body, mind, and spirit. If the triangle is pointing upward (as the shape of Maine) , then it signifies the masculine. Seeing a triangle may serve as some sort of warning or caution.
Fireworks: The best I can do here is firecrackers...To see a firecracker in your dream represents your outbursts. Your anger is being misdirected. However, I will go a bit further and say that when we see firworks we are often in awe of their beauty and splendor. We have them in celebration of something. So I will say you may possibly have achieved some goal or possibly estimate you will very soon and you feel quite pleased with this.
Airplanes: To see an airplane in your dream indicates that you will overcome your obstacles and rise to a new level of prominence and status. You may experience a higher consciousness, new-found freedom and greater awareness. I am also suspecting that since they are old school airplanes you are feeling nostalgic about something. Possibly you are in some kind of transitional period and part of you is going to miss the old, while the other part of you is ready to take life by the (pardon the pun here I cannot help myself...) BALLS...;-).
Not sure how much I helped...but give me the thumbs up if I got close...I am guessing that over all this wasn't a warning type dream. Seems more like you are going through some changes and that while you are a bit unsure of yourself (being paralyzed) you are ready for those changes and you should do well. Good Luck!EASY 10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER.!!?
You are welcome!
Well the first part of the dream probably means that you're confronted by or will be confronted by a problem, and you'll be really conflicted over it (The "not being able to move"). The second part seems to me like you like fire and may be involved in something fire-related sometime soon.
It doesn't mean anything. Our dreams come from our imaginations. We are capable of dreaming of ANYTHING; death, happiness, love, joy etc.ski doo auto salvage
