Which state is best for horse ownership out of the following list and WHY?

1) Vermont

2) New York

3) Utah

4) Colorado

5) Idaho

6) Maine

This would be for a small farm with horses on property. Here are some ideas for your answer..

-Affordability (land, hay)

-Economy (you can't own horses without a sufficient job...)

- Weather

-Resources

(Any discipline, by the way...)

Thank you!Which state is best for horse ownership out of the following list and why? Easy points : )?
New Mexico(I know not on the list, but better weather then those)

Utah

Idaho

Some places of CO you can only have a certain amount of animals on your land no matter how much land you have. So beware of that. Horses %26amp; snow is awful to deal with! I had 151 acres in WY %26amp; the snow just is horrible. Water freezing, well everything freezing. I like more sun myself.

I was just looking %26amp; found this site.

I would stay away from New York Vermont and Maine as they have some of the highest taxes in the country.

There is more to picking a place to have a horse farm then just cost of land and weather. Here in NW Ohio I can keep a horse for about $350/Year. However other areas of the country it cost more. Taxes are not too bad here electricity and utilities are not too bad in my area but go just 10-15 miles and that changes. It is not just the state but the area with in the state and how much work you are willing to do to get and find the best dealsWhich state is best for horse ownership out of the following list and why? Maine is freezing- I was up there in April and the ground had hardly thawed! You would need an indoor arena to ever ride up there and those are expensive. Vermont has a similar climate and is very expensive. New York can be a little warmer but the price is also very high.

Utah, Colorado, and Idaho are all more rural so you'd have better luck getting cheap land for horses. I hear horses sell for a lot less money out there too so you could get a nicer one for less money. However, Colorado is a bit TOO rural for my tastes. If you want a ranch with nobody around, this might be perfect, but I would prefer to have a horse community. Same problem with Utah- I would like a horse community!

That's why I pick Idaho- it is a combo of affordability and other horse people around to talk to, show with, ride with, et cetera.
All of your choices have cold winters. Vermont, upstate NY, Utah, and Maine would be the most affordable. Colorado would be best for a job and resources.Which state is best for horse ownership out of the following list and why? Easy points : )?
