I may be moving there because my fiance may be going to law school there...tell me anything you can about the city...is it nice? safe parts....how is it for a younger couple...weather in the winter? anything you can tell me i will greatly appreciate.Portland, maine?
portland ROCKS!!!! it is very nice--one of the nicest cities out there actually--still has a working waterfront, the Old Port is full of cobblestone streets lined with bars, restaurants, shops,etc....as far as nice goes--look to the east you see the ocean, look to the west you see the mountains; every part is a safe part mostly--very little crime here; the most desirable areas if you want to be close to the action are the East end and the West end--its great for young couples--there are alot of transplants here(i've only been here 2 years)--great mix of people from college students, artists, fishermen, young professionals and freaks---there are alot of people in the 25-35 year old age group as portland is always voted one of the best places to relocate to--- winter weather is its only drawback--it can be very cold and snowy at times and it can get dark very early but it stays sunny most of the time even in winter--the rest of the time the weather is great; another nice feature is that portland is very close to boston (about 100 miles, not even) and quebec city and montreal are only about 6 hours away but you'll feel like you went to old europe...if you like the outdoors you cant beat maine--beaches, mountains, skiing/boarding, camping, sea kayaking, hiking, lighthouses, whitewater rafting are all in your backyard--you can do any one of those activities and be home in time to go out for dinner in portland(not many places in the country that you can do all that).....bottom line--everyone that moves here loves it, havent heard anyone say a bad thing yet and i meet people from somewhere else all the timePortland, maine?
you will love it
