What did you have to do? (ex: get new clothes, wear more stuff, moods affected, etc)
Also, was it hard to adjust to the weather.
(ex: you moved from africa to canda, florida to maine)Has anyone every moved to a colder area?
I moved from Southern California to Northern Arizona. It took a while to adjust, mostly because I moved right before winter set in. Average snowfall here is about 85", from November to April. That year, it was 185" and I was re-thinking my decision.
I grew up learning to drive on the world's largest free parking lot, the Ventura freeway, so it has taken a while to adjust to hearing people complain about traffic in Flagstaff if they have to wait five minutes for a train. And speaking of trains, we have 140 + a day through here, and that whistle is driving me nuts. This is the first time I've lived right in town...before, I was out in the county, and never heard them. Oh well...trains were here first.
The weather is nice here, although I did have to buy a down jacket and long johns, and boots. In L.A., the closest you usually get to snow is the Matterhorn at Disneyland, and it does nothing to prepare you for the real thing. I have studded tires on my '65 Mustang....all four, as it is rear wheel drive. And I SLOW DOWN when it is snowing, unlike most of the others.
The small town atmosphere took some getting used to also...everybody knows your business here.
The air is clean, and that makes up for a lot. The politics aren't, and that is annoying. And the cost of living is almost the highest in the state...."Poverty With A View" is the unofficial motto. The Chamber of Commerce used to tell callers not to come here unless they either had their own business, or a contract to teach at the University.
Still, I knew I was in the right place when I heard them complaining about a 3 day heat wave of 85.
My husband moved from Tennessee to Wisconsin, where I live about 2 1/2 years ago. He is still not used to the cold or snow, and starts wearing winter stuff when it hits 40---when the rest of us are still in shorts!
He had to get a warmer coat, some snow-worthy boots, gloves, and a full face-protecting hat for when he snowblows. He also got plenty of warm fleece pants %26amp; tops, for lounging around in.Has anyone every moved to a colder area?
I moved from western washington to southeast idaho i definatley had to invest in warmer clothes suitable for snowy conditions, and all my rain gear was not needed any more, as well as snow shovel or plow a 4 x4 vehicle, no more 2 wheel drive sports cars in the winter as far as mood, just becuase it's cold doesn't mean its cloudy, we have way nicer skies than in washington, it is sunny a lot more
Yes
I was born in the south of the country and moved to the north, where the summers especially were much colder.
The main difference was the increase in wind speeds.Has anyone every moved to a colder area?
I moved from Hyderabad, India to Rochester, New York. I had to get a complete makeover of my closet! Coats, jackets, everything. That is worse than moving from Florida to Maine! Wow!
