Making the move to florida, need ideas of good places to settle!?

I'm looking to move to florida with a friend of mine. We are both 25 years old and want a change of pace/scenery and most of all want nice warm weather. We are both from up north (massachusetts and maine). We're wondering what are good places to move to in florida. We most definitely want to be in central to southern florida, but preferably central near tampa or daytona. What are some good areas? Is there much of a difference living on the gulf side vs the atlantic side of the state? We're hoping for somehere where the water is the pretty blue, as we're so used to the crummy dark waters of the north, so obviously we want a beach nearby. hoping for cheap rent that runs around $800 a month! Any help of great towns to search into would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and wanted to add that we're not HUGE fans of humidity but we clearly know it exists and is strong in florida. Are there any areas that you can't feel it as much meaning the beach breeze cools it down. I know these are weird requests, but just hoping for the ideal location in florida!Making the move to florida, need ideas of good places to settle!?
Your best guide is where you can get a job. Check that out before you make the move. The water on both sides is beautiful but on the atlantic side you have jelly fish. You will find more people from the northeast living on the Atlantic side as route 95 goes down that way. There are still people from the northeast on the gulf side but fewer and more from the midwest again because that's the way the highways run. You can live in Tampa for $800 a month for an apartment. The cheap apartments by the water are pretty crummy. We looked into that when my daughter was looking for a two bedroom. The ones near the water didn't have a dishwasher, were very tiny and were not that nice for what she could afford. She got a two bedroom 2 bath luxury condo with tennis courts, a pool and gym facility she rented in Feathersound in Clearwater for $1000 a month and would have had a tiny one bathroom place near the water for the same money. There are real estate agents who have listings for people who have not been able to sell their condos. The Venue which is a big place for people in their 20s and 30s is right by Feathersound. You can live 20 minutes from the water in St. Pete, Clearwater or south Tampa and get a nice place. Live near where you can get a job because you want a short commute. It's not bad going to the beach on the weekend. You are not going to escape the humidity except with your AC. In the summer Florida is just plain hot and humid everywhere including the beach. It is not like the northeast. It is in the 90s every day in June, July and August and the beginning of September. The bonus is the water is very warm.Making the move to florida, need ideas of good places to settle!?
I grew up in Massachusetts (East Longmeadow - outside of Springfield) and I am living in Tampa now. I was tired of the cold and the snow and I wanted a change! I LOVE it here. I live in a nice area of Tampa called New Tampa. It's about 45mins-1hr away (depending on traffic) to the gulf shore beaches, but also the same distance away to get to Orlando!

You can easily get a 2 bedroom apartment here for $800. Areas to check out are: Citrus Park, New Tampa, Carrollwood, South Tampa and right north of Tampa are: Wesley Chapel and Land O Lakes. Seminole Heights and Ybor are not good sections to live in. Ybor has great night life - but not so much to actually live there!

The humidity here is strong. However, here it doesn't bother me as much as it did up north. The reason is because it's the same every day in the summer. You can always count on about 92-95 degrees w/ a low in the mid 70's. With New England, you can have 95 one day, cold front comes through and then it is 72 the next day for a high!

Being by the ocean does help with the breeze though. However, for the beach towns/cities closest to me... try to stay away from St. Petersburg. There is a lot of crime there. North of Clearwater and Tampa there are some nice places - like New Port Richey, Hudson %26amp; Spring Hill.

The beaches on the gulf side are much better and always rated higher by Dr. Beach. There is Fort De Soto in St Pete which was #1 or #2 a few years ago, as well as Siesta Key in Sarasota.Making the move to florida, need ideas of good places to settle!?
Most of the east coast is more "city-like" the west coast is more laid back, even the cities. The west coast water is clearer, warmer with no real surf waves. The east coast water isn't that much different than the beaches near where you are now except warmer.

If you love NYC, try the east coast. If even the thought of visiting NYC gives you a headache, west coast would be best. Sarasota and Venice just below Tampa have fantastic beaches, great down towns, lower crime and good bars. Gainesville in the center of state, home to the University of Florida is a day trip to Orlando and both coasts, but hurricanes usually die before they reach there. Fun, party town too. Small/medium town with big school. Lowest average age of residents county in FL, around your age.

The humidity thing concerns me. Summers are 5+ months long, not 3. They are hotter, MORE humid and can seem like they last 9 months some years. Half the people who move to Florida, move out, usually leaving most of their money behind. The humidity is a major reason, but just one of the reasons. Florida does have advantages, but many find Florida only has "warm weather" 3 -4 months a year. Do your due diligence before your move. Good luck and hope it works out!
