Small town to live on North East cost of the U.S.?

here are my requirements

1. nice people and good high school

2. town of 2000-4000 people

3. near mountains, mountainous region

4. must be in north east united states (ex. new hampshire, maine, vermont...etc)

5. inexpensive

6. cloudy rainy weather...love it! weather wise like seattle only in the north east areaSmall town to live on North East cost of the U.S.?

good luck finding a town in New England that fulfills requirement 5. Other than that, I'm assuming you have the flexibility to live anywhere. Your politics may have a say in some of those towns. Vermont is incredibly liberal yet New Hampshire is more conservative.

Depending on how close you need to be to the mountains, city, coast, etc., a good central point is East Longmeadow, MA (suburb of Springfield). It's very close to mountains and skiing, not too far from NYC, cozy distance from Boston and the Cape. Excellent schools.

Likewise, Cumberland Rhode Island is an ideal spot. Very close to the ocean, less than an hour from Boston, two hours from the mountains and great schools.
